Qualities & Skills
Here, we will look at the qualities and skills required to operate a
home based internet business. You might not have all of these at present
however we are all capable of learning new things. That is what keeps
our lives fresh and interesting.
Qualities
You will be the boss of this business. Your own boss!
You are also likely to be the
only employee. You will be the manager, supervisor and junior. Nothing will
get done unless you plan it, initiate it and do it.

Planning requires that you understand where the business is headed
over the next twelve months, two years and five years. Short, medium and
long term. There will be distractions on the way. Focus will be
required. |
Initiating and completing activities requires self-motivation and
enthusiasm. There will be no one to supervise when and how you do a
task. You must be self reliant and resourceful. Things won't always
proceed as planned. Flexibility and resilience will be required to manoeuvre
through upsets.
Skills
Computer and Internet technology will be at the core of the business.
You will need to be able to utilise e-mail to communicate with suppliers
and customers. Your website will be your window the world will see and
effective use of the website will be a key element of your strategy. You
will be advertising and marketing products. Producing advertising copy will
need to be on your skills development list to meet this need.

Your business's progress will need to be monitored and
recorded. Money will be moving around between yourself, suppliers and
customers. You will need an accurate financial picture of your business
at all times. Record keeping, numeracy and spreadsheet skills will assist in this area. |
Time is a resource. You must be able to use your time effectively.
Don't waste time aimlessly surfing the net or working on opportunities
that show little or no return.

Finally, recognise where your skills need improvement or development
and plan to develop skills at the appropriate time. Train yourself.
