Satellite
In the vast majority of rural
areas the only alternative to dialup will be broadband satellite. Satellite communication is relatively expensive to set up with the
purchase and installation of a satellite dish being necessary. In some
regions planning permission may be required to erect a dish. Monthly
subscriptions tend to be higher than other broadband services.

Satellite data rates are subject to variation.
Factors include weather, sun activity and time of day. During peak
hours there will be more users sharing the service thus increasing the
load and reducing the data transfer rate. |
